India's adventures in water are as old as its civilisation which Indian Ocean witnessed from the earliest times to now. Oceanic cultures, born out of human interactions with ocean in port cities have thousands of years of history.

Knowing the Oceanic culture in its ecological, historical and natural context is essential in understanding the changes in the earth structure, evolution of life, man's impact on nature and nature's influence on man's attitude, way of life, communication and creation of civilizations.

IGNCA Diaspora Programme has been set up to build up a cross-cultural inter disciplinary dialogue among Indians in India and the world and to catalyse cultural inputs in development by drawing on Indian Diaspora.
